Jacob Harmon's 1000 Acres on Floyd's Fork

On 24 June 1784, Thomas Whitledge surveyed 1000 acres of land adjacent to the east side of Floyd's Fork for Jacob Harmon who obtained his deed to the land on 5 May 1791. Later, Harmon endorsed at least part of this tract over to John Rogers Gaither, for Gaither sold 150 acres of it to Joseph Ridgway, and another 50 acres to Thomas Butler on 26 Dec 1797.


Survey

Surveyed for a Jacob Harmon 1000 acres of land in Jefferson County by virtue of two treasury warrants numbers 3854 and 3853 duly entered on the east side of Floyd's Fork about 6 miles above its mouth up the fork. Beginning and bounded as followeth, Viz. at a white oak, ash & small sugar tree on the bank of Floyd's Fork on the upper side of a small creek, thence South 30° East 224 poles to a poplar, gum and dogwood on a ridge, thence South 60° West 542 poles to three ashes, a sugar tree and hickory tree near a glade by a branch, thence North 30° West 280 poles to two sugar trees and a walnut at a branch near some large rocks, thence South 70° West 40 poles to a large hoop ash tree, a buckeye and sugar tree on the bank of Floyd's Fork by the hollow spring near the mouth of a creek, then up Floyd's Fork with the several meanders binding on the same 700 poles to the beginning. Beverley Randolph Esquire, governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, to all to whom these presents shall come, greeting. Know ye by virtue and in consideration of two land office treasury warrants numbers 3853 & 3854 there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto Jacob Harmon a certain tract or parcel of land containing 1000 acres by survey bearing date the 24th day of June 1784, lying and being in the county of Jefferson on the east side of Floyd's Fork about six miles above its mouth and bounded as followeth, to wit. Beginning at a white oak, ash & small sugar tree on the bank of Floyd's Fork on the upper side of a small creek, thence South 30° East 224 poles to a poplar, gum and dogwood on a ridge, South 60° West 542 poles to three ashes, a sugar tree and hickory tree near a glade by a branch, North 30° West 280 poles to two sugar trees and a walnut at a branch near some large rocks, thence South 70° West 40 poles to a large hoop ash tree, a buckeye and sugar tree on the bank of Floyd's Fork by the hollow spring near the mouth of a creek, then up Floyd's Fork with the several meanders binding on the same 700 poles to the beginning with its appurtenances to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with its appurtenances to the said Jacob Harmon and his heirs forever. In witness whereof the said Beverley Randolph Esquire, governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, hath hereunto set his hand and caused the lesser seal of the said Commonwealth to be affixed at Richmond on the 5th day of May in the year of our Lord 1791, and of the Commonwealth the 15th.
