David Hall Deed to William Newkirk

This deed to William Newkirk was one of several written at the request of David Hall following his death in 1814. In his will he assigned the task to his three sons-in-law, Alexander King, Nicholas Gentry, and Richard Lovelace. It covered part of the land covered by the 1400 acre settlement and preemption granted to Thomas Johnson, assignee of James McCollock.

David Hall to William Newkirk

This indenture made and entered into this 9th day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifteen between Alexander King, Nicholas Gentry and Richard Lovelace executors of David Hall dec'd and especially appointed by the said testator for the purpose of conveying certain tracts of land of the one part and William Newkirk of the other part, all of the County of Bullitt and Commonwealth of Kentucky. Witnesseth that the said Alexander King, Nicholas Gentry and Richard Lovelace, executors as aforesaid, doth by these presents relinquish all their right, title and claim and interest to and in a certain tract or parcel of land situate, laying and being in the county and commonwealth aforesaid, and on the waters of Salt River, bounded as followeth (to wit), beginning at a sugartree, two elms and an ash corner with Clifton Hall, thence S 75 W 34, S 78 1/2 W 40 poles, S 68 W 60 poles to an ironwood and sugartree corner with said Hall, thence S 14 E 44 poles to a walnut and two white oak saplings corner with said Hall, thence S 37 E 30 poles to a honeylocust and two dogwoods corner with said Hall, thence N 75 E 80 poles to an ash and two sugartrees corner with the said Hall on the branch, thence N 13 E 90 poles to the beginning, containing by estimation fifty two acres be the same more or less and the said Alexander King, Nicholas Gentry and Richard Lovelace agree for themselves, their heirs and for the legal heirs of David Hall dec'd to warrant and forever defend unto the said William Newkirk, his heirs and assigns forever the aforesaid tract or parcel of land with all and every appurtenances thereunto belonging from themselves, their heirs and from the legal heirs of David Hall dec'd, and from all persons claiming in through or by or under them, but not from the claim or claims of any other person or persons whatsoever. In testimony whereof we have hereunto set out hand and affixed our seals this day and date above written.

Bullitt County Sect. I James Halbert, clerk of the county court in and for the county aforesaid do certify that on this day the within indenture from A. King, Nicholas Gentry and Richard Lovelace, executors of David Hall was produced to me in my office and acknowledged by them to be their voluntary act and deed for the purpose therein mentioned, and that I have truly recorded the same together with this certificate in my said office, given unde my hand and seal this 9th day of May 1815.
