On 27 Jun 1797, John Drake surveyed 1830 acres along the Ohio River for himself as an assignee of Martin Daniel. This land lay to the north of a 1000 acre patent in the name of William Johnston.

Surveyed for John Drake, assignee of Martin Daniel, executor of Robert Daniel, dec'd who was heir at law to Walker Daniel, deceased, 1830 acres of land by virtue of part of an entry for 2000 acres dated February 7th 1784 on part of a treasury warrant No. 9392, situate in Jefferson County on the Ohio River.
Beginning at [A] a black walnut, box elder and two honey locusts which forks near the root, standing on the bank of said river on the lower side of a branch about 880 poles as it meanders above the mouth of Salt River, being the upper corner of an entry for 1000 acres in the name of the said Walker Daniel, which calls for Benjamin Johnston's 1000 acres at the mouth of Salt River, running thence South 61° East 212 poles, crossing Pond Creek, and recrossing said creek two other times in all 340 poles to [B] a poplar and two beeches, one of which is marked D on the south side of a branch of Pond Creek, thence North 53° East up the said branch and crossing it sundry times 265 poles to [C] a hickory, elm and beech marked D standing on a drain on the south side of said branch, thence North 5° East crossing Pond Creek at 220 poles in all 440 poles to a sugar tree, small beech and two hickories standing on [D] the northwest bank of said creek, thence N 61° W 56 poles crossing a branch of Ohio to [E] a sugar tree and two beeches near one marked D on the bank of the Ohio River, thence down the same with the meander thereof to the beginning.
