Adam Shepherd to Josiah Evans, 169 Acres, 29 Apr 1803

On 29 Apr 1803, Josiah Evans purchased 169 acres of land from Adam Shepherd that was located along Cane Run in southern Bullitt County. Neighboring property owners mentioned included Ephraim Johnson, and John Macher.

This indenture Made the 29th day of April in the year 1803 between Adam Shepherd and Rachel his wife of Bullitt County and state of Kentucky of the one part and Josiah Evans of the county and state aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the aforesaid Adam Shepherd and Rachel his wife for and in consideration of the full and just sum of $160 to them in hand paid at and before the sealing and delivering of these presents, the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge, and themselves herewith fully satisfied, have bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain, sell, alien, & confirm unto the aforesaid Josiah Evans all their right, title, claim and interest of in and to a certain parcel of land containing one hundred and sixty nine acres by survey, and a part of John Macher's two five hundred acre surveys situate lying and being in the county aforesaid on Cane Run waters of Crooked Creek, and bounded as followeth (to wit). Beginning at two white oaks corner to said Macher's lower 500 acre survey, thence with the original line S 10° E 137 poles to Ephraim Johnson's corner of two beech trees, thence with said Johnson's line N 71° E 132 poles to Jacob Shawler's corner of two white oaks, thence with said Shawler's line N 80° E 107 poles to his corner of white oak and black oak in Joseph Floyd's line, thence with said line N 25° W 102 poles to a white oak and chesnut oak in the first line of said Macher's upper five hundred acre survey, thence with said line S 45° W 14 to the original corner of two white oaks in a line of the lower five hundred acre survey, thence with said line N 10° W 20 poles to Macher's corner of two white oaks, thence with another line S 80° W 200 poles to the beginning. To have and to hold all and singular the above described parcel of land with all and singular the estate rights, tenement farms and all and every the appurtenances thereunto belonging to him the said Josiah Evans and his heirs forever from they the aforesaid Adam Shepherd and Rachel his wife and their heirs forever, and they the aforesaid Adam Shepherd and Rachel his wife for themselves and their heirs do covenant with him the aforesaid Josiah Evans and his heirs that they the above described parcel of land with all and singular the appurtenances aforesaid from themselves and their heirs and from all and every the claim or claims of all and every person or persons whatsoever unto him the aforesaid Josiah Evans and his heirs forever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents. In witness whereof they the aforesaid Adam Shepherd and Rachel his wife have hereunto set their hand and affixed their seals on the day and in the year first written. To all whom it may concern, I Frederic William Spence Grayson, clerk of the county court of said county, do make known that on the thirtieth day of April last Adam Shepherd and Rachel his wife a party to the foregoing indenture personally before me acknowledged the same to be their voluntary act and deed (she the said Rachel being examined by me separate apart from and out of the hearing of her said husband declared that she made her said acknowledgement freely without the persuasions or threats or thro fear of his displeasure) and that I have recorded the said indenture in my office as required by law.
