Original Shepherdsville Lots - Lot 23

On 18 Mar 1829, Jonathan Gore Jr. sold a part of the southern half of Shepherdsville Lot #23 to Joseph R. Murray. This tract lay to the east of an earlier tract sold to John J. Thomasson, both tracts fronting on what was then called Main Cross Street, and later became known as Second Street.

This indenture made this 18th day of March 1829 between Jonathan Gore Jr. and Moriah, his wife of the county, of Bullitt and state of Kentucky of the one part and Joseph R. Murray of the same county and state of the other part. Witness that the sad Jonathan Gore Jr. and Moriah, his wife for an in consideration of the sum of $170 to them secured to be paid have granted, bargained and sold and by these presents to do grant, bargain and sell, alien, release, convey and confirm unto the said Joseph R. Murray, his heirs, &c the following bounded and described part of a certain lot of ground, situate ,lying, and being a part of the town of Shepherdsville, Bullitt County, Kentucky, and known and designated on the map or plan of said town by the number 23.

Beginning at the southeast corner of that part of said lot, which was conveyed by the said Jonathan Gore Jr. and wife to John J. Thomasson, thence with said Thomasson's line, North 6 1/2°, East 25 feet to a stone, thence South, 83 1/2° East 37 feet to a stone, thence South 6 1/2° West 25 feet to a stone in the line of Main Cross Street, thence with said line North 83 1/2° West 37 feet to the beginning including the blacksmith shop and cole house now occupied and used by the said Joseph R. Murray.

To have and to hold the foregoing described and bounded part of said lot #23 with all and singular the buildings and appurtenances thereto belonging unto him the said Joseph R. Murray, his heirs, executors and administrators, and to his and their only proper use, benefit and behoof forever. And the said Jonathan Gore Jr. nd Moriah his wife for themselves, their heirs, executors, and administrators do covenant and agree to and with the said Joseph R. Murray that they will and their heirs shall warrant and forever defend to the said Joseph R. Murray, his heirs &c the said described part of said lot, building and appurtenances from themselves and their heirs and from the claim or claims of all and every person or persons claiming or to claim the same. In testimony whereof the said Jonathan Gore Jr. and Moriah his wife hereto set their hands and seals on the day and year before written. (signed) Jonathan Gore, Moriah Gore.
