Benjamin & Valinda Summers to John Griffin - Lot 79

This indenture made this fourth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twelve between Benjamin Summers and Valinda his wife of the County of Bullitt and Commonwealth of Kentucky of the one part and John Griffin of the same county and Commonwealth of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Benjamin Summers and Valinda his wife for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred dollars current money of the United States of America to them in hand paid by the said Griffin before the execution hereof, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have given, granted, bargained and sold, aliened, released, conveyed and confirmed and by these presents do give, grant, bargain and sell, alien, release, convey and confirm unto the said John Griffin a certain parcel or lot of ground in Shepherdsville in said County known by its number seventy-nine upon the plan of said town as lately established by the Legislature of said Commonwealth bounded southwardly by Salt River, northwardly by Water Street, westwardly by Minerva Alley, and eastwardly by lot No. 80, it being the lot opposite that upon which William Mockbee lately lived, and upon which the said John W. Beckwith now resides, and it being the same lot this day conveyed by the Trustees of Shepherdsville aforesaid to said Summers with its appurtenances. To have and to hold the said lot of ground with its appurtenances to the said John Griffin, his heirs and assigns, to his and their only proper use, benefit and behoof forever. And the said Benjamin Summers and Valinda his wife for themselves, their heirs, executors and administrators do further covenant and agree with the said John Griffin, his heirs and assigns, that they will forever warrant and defend the said lot of ground to the said John Griffin, his heirs and assigns against all and every person or persons whatsoever. In witness whereof the said Benjamin Summers and Valinda his wife have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the date first above written. (signed) Benjamin Summers, Valinda Summers

I Frederic W. S. Grayson, clerk of the county court in and for the county aforesaid, do hereby certify that on the 5th day of June 1812 this indenture was acknowledge by Benjamin Summers and Valinda Summers his wife to be their voluntary act and deed; the said Valinda being examined by me privily and apart from her said said husband, declared that she relinquished her right and dower to the lot therein mentioned, and that she done the same without the threats or persuasions of her said husband, or through fear of gaining his displeasure, whereupon I have recorded the said indenture together with this certificate in my office as required by law the 5th day of November 1813.
