John Collins bought this lot in 1797, and it came into the possession of Harmon Greathouse at Collins' death. Greathouse then sold it to Henry Jones who sold a portion of it to John M. Jones who then sold it to Frederic Travis. Travis would sell the ground to Rodolphus Bukey on 22 Dec 1829. Bukey sold the ground to Henry C. M. Cartmell on 17 Oct 1836. Following Cartmell's death, his administrators sold the lot to Thomas Joyce on 15 Mar 1838, as shown below.

This indenture made and entered into this 15th day of March in the year of our Lord 1838 by in between Mary E. Cartmell and Enoch W. Gore, administratrix and administrator with the will annexed of Henry C. M. Cartmell dec'd of the first part and Thomas Joyce of the second part, both of Bullitt County, Kentucky.
Witnesseth that the said party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of $210 to them by the party of the second part in hand paid, the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge, have given, granted, bargained, and sold, and by these presents, do give, sell and convey unto the said party of the second part a certain lot or parcel of ground with the appurtenances situate, lying, and being in the town of Shepherdsville, being a part of lot number 58 in the new plan of said town, and bounded as follows, to-wit.
Beginning at the west corner of the brick corner house on Water Street now owned by Matthew Wilson or John H. Baker, thence with Water Street to the middle partition wall between the lot now conveyed and the house now owned by Joseph W. Caldwell, thence with the line northwardly of the last two lots, the original course of the lots to the back line thereof on the alley, thence with the alley to the corner on the alley eastwardly, thence with the alley to the back line of the said M. Wilson's (or J. H. Baker's) lot, thence with M. Wilson's (or J. H. Baker's) line to the beginning.
To have and to hold the above bounded part of lot number 58 with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining to him the said Thomas Joyce and his heirs and assigns forever. And the said party of the first part do hereby covenant and agree to and with the party of the second part that the title to the above bounded part of lot number 58 they will as administratrix and administrator with the will annexed of Henry C. M. Cartmell dec'd forever warrant and defend to him the said part of the second part, his heirs and assigns against the claim or claims of all and every persons claiming or to claim the same. In testimony whereof the party of the first part have hereto set their hands and affixed their seals this day and year first above written.
